History
Brief:
This is one of the towns formed from 1635 Saybrook Colony. The General Assembly created the separate town of Old Saybrook from Saybrook in 1852. Old Saybrook was separated again in 1854 when the northern part became the town of Essex. Town vital records begin 1859.
