History
Brief:
There were settlers here as early as 1648, but the Plantation on the East Side of Norwich was not established until October 1686. In October 1687, the Court named the Plantation the town of Presson. The inhabitants referred to their settlement as New Presson but the town came to be called, Preston. Town vital records begin 1687. Barbour collection records cover 1687-1850.
