The first settler here was John Alcok of New Haven, who came in 1731. In 1762, Farmingbury Society was established with partial privileges and, in 1770, it was granted full privileges. The Parish was incorporated as a town in May 1796 on land taken from Waterbury and Southington and was named Wolcott in honor of Gov. Oliver Wolcott. Town vital records begin 1790. Barbour collection records cover 1796-1854.
