This was part of the Wabbaquasset Country and was granted to Simeon Stoddard 3rd, of Boston in satisfaction of a judgment in 1695. It became known as the Stoddard Tract. In May 1706, the General Court tried to settle rival claims, as this land was part of that granted to Major Fitch of Norwich. In April 1710 John Perry of Marlborough, MA bought land on the Still River to begin the Plantation of New Scituate. In October 1777, the General Assembly granted this settlement the privileges of a Society, giving it the name of the Parish of Eastford. It became the town of Eastford in May 1847. Town vital records begin 1847. Barbour collection records cover 1847-51.
