History
Brief: |
In a 1715 Town Meeting in Hartford, a committee was appointed to treat with the Indians for the purchase of these lands in concert with Windsor. In 1718, a company was formed to settle the Plantation of Bantam. In May 1719, the General Assembly bestowed the name, Litchfield to the area. In May 1818, it was chartered as the Village of Litchfield and on 21 March 1879 this became the Borough of Litchfield. Town vital records begin 1719. Barbour collection records cover 1719-1854. |
